Seafood Recipe Books on eBay
I have provided a live eBay listing box here - well, I've tried, but I'm a bit of a novice, so bear with me - the best source for recipe books I have found IS eBay.
Here you will find older books - my favourite seafood recipe books are hard to find now - I've owned them for years - but some people are wanting to get rid of them.
So - here's some eBay listings for you - the keywords I've used are seafood and the listing come from the books section and the home and garden section - that means that you'll see cookware as well as books in this box.
They're updated as the auctions finish and you just click on the 'view all' button at the bottom of the box. A new window opens and you can refine your search then.
The terminology is 'live' or 'dynamic' oooooohhh...
My favourites then and the ones that I've learned from:-
Susan Hicks - two books - The Fish Course and The Seafish Cookbook.
Both excellent sources of information and ideas.
Floyd on Fish - Keith Floyd makes me laugh - I love his humour and his presentation.
An excellent book is The Best Ever Cook's Collection Fish and Seafood. The Consultant Editor is Linda Doeser.
This book has 200 illustrated step by step recipes. It is truly inspirational as the pictures just make your mouth water. It's a very valuable addition to your collection.
Personally, I own dozens of cookery books - they give me immense pleasure, just turning the pages and reading the ingredients.
These books are all worthwhile having if you can find them secondhand on eBay.
I would find it hard to recommend just one to be honest, so if you can get them all and they're reasonably priced, then do so.
For general recipes, I find Mrs Beeton's Everyday Cooking hard to beat - my nan bought me mine as a Christmas present in 1976 - it's battered and worn, but I have referred to it so often over the years. It is so comprehensive, I couldn't begin to describe the part it's played in my development as a cook.
Another great cookery writer is Delia Smith - I have lots of her books. Her writing style is so easy to follow. Frugal Food is a good one - it's aim is to show that good food needn't be expensive.
How to Cheat at Cooking gives ways of serving packets, frozen, prepared and tinned food in a way that makes them palatable - if nothing else, it's a good laugh and will give you ideas for cutting corners when time's shor.
or short even - it's a joke ;-)
Complete Cookery Course is just what it says - a must have for me over the years and ranks alongside Mrs Beeton as one of my constants.
Cooking for One is brilliant - it's a 'comforting' read if you understand what I'm saying - almost like bedtime reading and the recipes can always be multiplied up to serve more. In fact, if you live alone and are cooking for only one, you feel as though you have a companion in this book - can't describe the warmth from it - she becomes your friend.
Don't worry about trading on eBay - don't panic and bid too much, another one always comes along I've found ;-)
When you click on the view all at the bottom of the box, you can further refine your search to just what you're looking for - personally, I love to browse eBay - I never know what I might need until I see it!
If you're not a member already, then just follow the instructions to register, it's free and it's very easy - then you can watch and bid on items.
A little eBay tip
Don't be fooled into buying cheap and then spending a lot on postage.
At the extreme, I have seen eBooks on CDs advertised for one penny and the p&p at £4 - that's about $7 - email the seller and innocently ask if the p&p is a mistake - you would be interested in buying their book, but you've worked out the postage to be - estimate and add a pound/couple of dollars.
You might get a reduction. BUT if it's a book you want and you can't get it anywhere else, then have it anyway ;-)
It's a common 'ruse' to get more money for auctions - p&p can be expensive - books are heavy - and people are entitled to be paid for their time - but sometimes... they're a little greedy.
